A recent tweet from the official account of Sony Santa Monica has revealed that the team has welcomed a new addition to the team. Jason Vandenberghe, the narrative director of the popular Gears of War franchise, has joined the studio.
Vandenberghe is mainly known for his work on the Gears of War series. He was the story director on the first two games alongside the award-winning writer Joshua Ortega. He was also the lead designer on the third and fourth entries in the series.
Vandenberghe has also worked on a variety of other projects. These include titles such as Ubisoft’s Rock Band-inspired ‘Rocksmith’ and the downloadable spin-off to the cult classic PlayStation ‘Syphon Filter’ series called ‘Logan’s Shadow’.
Sony Santa Monica is currently at work on the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive, ‘God of War’. The studio is best known for its work on the acclaimed franchise and has been working on the title for the past two years.
Vandenberghe is likely to join the team in some capacity, though his role is yet to be announced. However, it’s clear that Sony Santa Monica is looking to add some narrative expertise to its team. Whether this new addition will have an impact on ‘God of War’s story is yet to be seen.
‘God of War’ is currently without a release date but is expected to launch sometime in 2018.
