Today Nintendo released the sixth installment of its Mario Kart 8 Deluxe downloadable content (DLC) as part of the game’s Version 3.0.0 update. The update brought new racers, music, and added functions to the Nintendo Switch title.
The downloadable content now includes three additional characters: King Boo, Bowser Jr., and Dry Bones. Unlike the other five packs, which feature eight racers each, the Wave 6 set includes just three. Two new vehicles have also been added to the mix, the Yoshi Bike and Bone Rider, along with 16 additional themed courses.
In addition to the DLC, the 3.0.0 update implemented new gameplay features such as the ability to choose a CPU difficulty setting between 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc. New kart customization options, design option filters, and gameplay optimizations have also been integrated.
New Music and Online Functions
A handful of new tracks from Mario Kart DS were added to the game’s soundtrack, including eight new songs, four returning course themes and four new arrangements. Online functionality has also been improved in multiple areas, with Nintendo now offering the option to spectate races using the Smart Steering and Auto Acceleration settings.
With the game’s update, you can also access VR Cinematic Mode on Nintendo Labo. This gives players the ability to view the races from the sidelines. It also supports two-player split-screen for VR mode.
Various Fixes and Additional Updates
Along with all the new add-ons, the update includes several fixes and optimizations. This includes the ability to automatically back up your save data to the cloud. That will help ensure that your progress is safe even if your Nintendo Switch console sustains irreparable damage.
Various gameplay-oriented changes have been made as well. The wording of certain messages has been adjusted, specific character animations have been tweaked, and the hang glider’s performance has been improved to reduce flutter. It’s also now possible to unlock more characters by participating in Expert Staff Ghost Races.
