Xbox Exclusives ‘Too Big’ for the Steam Deck: Digital Foundry Tests Remnant 2 and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
Digital Foundry has tested the latest Xbox exclusives on the Steam Deck – Remnant 2 and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart – and found that they are too demanding for the console.
In their tests, Digital Foundry found that the Steam Deck’s weaker GPU specs mean that the Xbox exclusives are unable to run at their full graphical capabilities. As a result, both games ran at a lower resolution and with a lower framerate than they would when running on an Xbox. This dropped the visual clarity and game performance, though Digital Foundry noted that both games still looked better than most other games when scaling down their graphical potential to meet the Steam Deck’s specs.
The Steam Deck is already known for its lower graphical potential compared to the more powerful Xbox systems, which is why these types of experiences are usually not ported to the console. However, with the increasing power of the Steam Deck, developers may now be able to utilize more of their games’ potential on the console, which could make for an enjoyable experience for Steam Deck owners.
Digital Foundry concluded that Remnant 2 and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart were ‘too big’ for the Steam Deck, and that the console couldn’t keep up with their advanced graphical demands. That said, these games still provided an enjoyable experience, and there is hope that future games will be better optimized for the Steam Deck.
