After a full year of competitive VALORANT esports, the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) Series 2 is set to culminate with the VALORANT Masters Tokyo 2023 (VMT2023), the biggest competitive esports tournament in the game’s history. This will be the first event to provide a global stage where the best VALORANT teams in the world will meet to claim the right to be crowned VALORANT Masters Tokyo 2023 champions.
VCT Series 2 began in March 2021 with an open tournament featuring teams in three regions: North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. After weeks of intense competition, 30 teams in each region earned their spots in the VALORANT Champions Tour playoffs. This included 16 teams from North America, 10 from Europe, and four from South Korea.
In addition to the 30 teams competing in the main tournament, the top two teams from each region earned an invitation to the VALORANT Champions Tour Masters Tokyo. This marks the third major tournament of YEAR, following on from the First Strike series and Challengers series.
The VALORANT Champions Tour Masters Tokyo will feature a double-elimination format, with the top teams from each region competing for a spot at the grand finals. Teams will battle it out through 10 days of intense competition, including four groups, arranged in a double-elimination bracket. In addition, the semi-final and final stages will feature a best-of-five format rather than the best-of-three all other previous VALORANT tournaments have used.
At the end of the tournament, the team with the most points will be crowned VALORANT Masters Tokyo 2023 champions and take home the largest single tournament prize pool in VALORANT history – $1 million.
The event will also feature an Open Qualifier, allowing the public to sign up for a chance to compete in the tournament. The top teams from each region in the Open Qualifier will join the main tournament, providing an opportunity for up-and-coming VALORANT stars to make their mark on the global VALORANT esports scene.
