Xbox Accuses Activision of High Demands for Call of Duty on Series X/S

Microsoft has accused Activision of making “high demands” for its recently launched Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War to be available on the Xbox Series X/S. Microsoft has been pushing for the game to be available on its next-gen consoles ever since it was released for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in November 2020.

In a statement released by Microsoft, the tech giant said, “Activision has communicated high demands to Xbox for its Call of Duty franchise title on Xbox Series X and Series S, which are out of step and not realistic relative to the market.” Microsoft added that they had done “everything possible” to reach an agreement with Activision for Call of Duty to be available on its next-gen consoles but that it is “important to ensure our customers have a fair and first-class experience across all of our platforms”.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is both a critical and financially successful title and its availability on the Xbox Series X/S would be a major boon for Microsoft. In contrast, Sony has made the game available on its PlayStation 5 platform since launch. A Microsoft spokesperson further said that the tech giant is “committed to doing all that we can to bring the full Black Ops Cold War experience, including integration of Xbox Live, to the entire Xbox community and remain in close communication with Activision.”

Activision has yet to make a statement on the matter. At this time, it is unsure whether the company will meet Microsoft’s demands or if the game will eventually be available on the Xbox Series X/S. For now, the Xbox community will have to wait and see how this dispute plays out.
