Remnant 2 is an upcoming game that has been announced by Gunfire Studio–the same studio that created Remnant: From the Ashes and Darksiders 3. The game will be a spiritual successor to Remnant, featuring a larger scale, next-gen visuals, and updated audio. Unlike its predecessor, the game will be built with Unreal Engine 5, specifically taking advantage of the new Nanite technology for its graphics. Remnant 2 is set to be one of the first games available to demonstrate the power of Nanite and be a shining light for Unreal Engine 5.
Using the Nanite technology, developers will be able to stream nearly unlimited amounts of geometric detail into the game, allowing for incredibly detailed textures and shapes. Rather than creating models, textures, and animations in the traditional way, Nanite takes a scan of the 3D model and converts it into a virtual asset that will stream directly in the game. This significantly reduces the time it takes to create content for the game, and also reduces the time it takes to render it in real-time.
Remnant 2 will also make use of Lumen in the mobile version. The dynamic global illumination is enabled by nanite technology and provides realistic lighting that reacts to objects in the game world. This means that objects can cast shadows realistically in real time, and lights will accurately interact with different surfaces.
The Unreal Engine 5 will also enable immersive audio in Remnant 2. Through the game’s Audio Plugin Architecture, the developers will be able to take advantage of 3D sound and dynamic audio that will respond to the players’ actions in the game.
Aside from the exciting technological features, Remnant 2 will have a great story that is similar to the original. Players will control a group of survivors and be tasked with rescuing the remnant of humanity from an unknown threat. Along the way, the characters will travel to mysterious locations and uncover the truth about the threat.
Remnant 2 will be the perfect demonstration of the power of Unreal Engine 5 and Nanite technology when it releases. Not only will players be able to experience incredible visuals and audio, they will also be able to explore an intriguing world, fight dangerous enemies, and save the remnant of humanity.
