Ubisoft Boss Calls for Patience – Suggests Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Should Have Waited for Nintendo’s Next Console

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has called for patience when it comes to linking up videogames with other gaming platforms. His remarks come as Ubisoft releases its Mario+Rabbids: Sparks of Hope for Nintendo’s Switch console.

Despite his company’s foray into the world of Nintendo’s platforms, Guillemot suggests that the game could have been even better if developers had waited for Nintendo’s next console in the works.

“We have to be patient,” Guillemot said in an interview. “It takes a few years before we are able to tap into the new consoles and [reach the] quality and ideas we have in our minds. So, maybe this game was coming a bit early for the new capabilities of the hardware.”

Mario+Rabbids: Sparks of Hope has seen some commercial success but faces criticism for not reaching its full potential on the Switch. However, Guillemot maintains that the game was released intentionally to showcase what Ubisoft can do with Nintendo’s platforms.

“We wanted to show a capacity, show our collaboration with [Nintendo and] our qualities that we can bring, without having to wait so much for the next console to be as good as we can be,” said Guillemot.

These remarks come from a seasoned publishing company that has been in gaming space for over thirty years. Ubisoft has traditionally pushed the technology frontier, creating some of the most successful games, sometimes launching multiple critically and commercially successful ones within the same year.

Mario+Rabbids: Sparks of Hope is Ubisoft’s first major release for the Switch platform, which has seen massive success since its launch last March. Moving forward, gamers can expect to see titles launching across all Nintendo platforms this year.

Ubisoft’s Guillemot has always been a loud and outspoken voice in the gaming industry. It is clear he expects his company to wait until the new hardware is available in order to fully exploit its potential, and stay ahead of the competition.
