Evo 2023 Breaks Record with 9,000+ Entrants, Registration Rankings Released

Evo 2023 is officially the most successful Evo yet, with over 9,000 entrants across the tournament’s nine core titles. This milestone was reached earlier than expected, setting a new record for the long-running fighting game tournament series.

Organizers have released the registration rankings for Evo 2023, showing that Street Fighter V: Champion Edition was the most popular game, with 1,580 entrants. Following close behind was Tekken 7 with 1,280 players joined. The remaining seven fighting game titles included Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R, The King of Fighters XIII, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle, Injustice 2, and Killer Instinct.

Renowned gamers Daigo Umehara, Justin Wong, and Alex Valle commented on the news of Evo 2023’s record numbers. “Seeing this many people come out to compete is a testament to the global popularity of fighting games,” Umehara said. “It’s exciting to be a part of the community at this time.” Wong and Valle both agreed and expressed their excitement as well.

Evo 2023 will still accept players who missed the registration deadline. However, the ranking for latecomers will be based on a separate pool and these players will not be eligible for the ending tournament.

The tournament is scheduled to take place later this year and will be held online due to Covid-19 safety precautions. Fans will be able to view the stream for the main tournament on Evo’s Twitch channel.
