Colonel Sanders, the iconic face of KFC for more than 50 years has been
remade for a special collaboration with the global hit MMORPG,
Final Fantasy XIV. The game’s new expansion, Shadowbringers, has been
taking the world by storm – so much so that KFC has decided to
incorporate the popular character into their Japan TGS booth.
The special collaboration redesigned Colonel Sanders as a mysterious
Black Mage from Final Fantasy XIV, with the same iconic white suit –
but with a blue tone and a signature pointed hat. The theme of the
event was a “Shadowbringers Black Mage KFC Cafe” – simulating the
typical cafe settings from the game.
Not only was there a giant figure of the black mage Colonel Sanders
present at the booth, but also an assortment of familiar characters
from the Final Fantasy universe, all decked out in their iconic
KFC outfits. The KFC cafe menu was also based on the in-game
multiplayer cafe dishes.
To commemorate the special event, KFC released a series of
characterudes based on the KFC-fitted Final Fantasy characters, as
well as a set of KFC-inspired playing cards. The imagery in the
cards were based on classic Final Fantasy characters including
Cloud Strife, Yuna, Vivi and Balthier.
As the collaboration was held in Japan only – fans of Final Fantasy
from other parts of the world can still join in on the fun!
KFC have also released an official Black Mage Colonel Sanders
merchandise, and it’s available for fans to purchase online.
