John Romero to Release Autobiography ‘Doom Guy’ Next Month
John Romero, the co-creator of 1993 PC classic Doom, is set to release his autobiography, Doom Guy, next month. The book follows Romero’s journey to create the groundbreaking game, from initial inspiration to the lasting legacy it has left.
In the book, Romero shares exclusive stories from the creation of Doom, recounting the ambitious production, groundbreaking design choices and successes that put the game on the map. This includes Romero’s experience of coding the game’s classic soundtrack, and stories from the evangelists who helped spread it in the days before the Internet.
Romero says he hopes Doom Guy’s release will reignite interest in his classic FPS, but also inspire new generations of young game designers. “I hope that this book will not only remind people of my old game, but also ignite a spark in their hearts to build their own groundbreaking games and experiences,” he said.
The book is due for release on June 1st, with a launch event scheduled for the same day. Pre-orders can now be made at major booksellers.
