John Cena has been confirmed as the voice actor for the character Peacemaker in the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie. Cena made the announcement himself in a social media post, although no details were given as to Peacemaker’s role in the film, or what his powers and abilities will be.
No word yet on the casting for Anthony Starr’s Homelander role for the film, although there have been some rumors that Cena could be also playing the role of the character.
The upcoming reboot of the Mortal Kombat movie follows in the footsteps of the classic 1995 film, which was immediately incorporated into the franchise’s continuity, and remains one of the most successful and beloved adaptations of a video game up to this day.
The movie will reportedly be directed by Simon McQuoid, who has worked on some of the most successful martial arts films of recent times, such as The Raid and Ninja: Shadow of a Tear.
The film is based on the hit fighting game franchise, which has been around for almost three decades. Mortal Kombat has gained a cult following due to its iconic characters and violence-filled gameplay.
The film will star some well-known names, such as Lewis Tan, Max Huang, Joe Taslim and Jessica McNamee. It is scheduled to premier on April 23, 2021.
